Why You Don’t Need Strength or Flexibility to Start Pole or Aerial

One of the biggest myths in the pole and aerial world is that you need to be strong, flexible, or athletic before you start. Let’s clear that up right now: you don’t.

Your first class is designed for beginners — real beginners. People who have never climbed a pole, touched a hoop, or stretched in years. If that sounds like you, you’re exactly who these classes are for.

Myth #1: “I need upper body strength before I start.”

Nope. Pole and aerial build strength — you don’t need it beforehand.

In your first classes, you’ll learn:

  • how to engage the right muscles

  • how to use momentum safely

  • how to support your body with technique, not brute force

Strength comes naturally as you practice. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your body adapts.

Myth #2: “I’m not flexible enough.”

Flexibility is not a requirement. It’s a skill that grows over time — just like strength.

Beginner classes focus on:

  • supported shapes

  • accessible poses

  • gentle mobility

  • safe stretching

You don’t need splits, backbends, or bendy anything. You just need to show up.

Myth #3: “I’m not coordinated.”

Coordination is learned. Pole and aerial movements feel strange at first because they’re new — not because you’re uncoordinated.

Your instructor breaks everything down step‑by‑step. You’ll repeat movements until they feel natural, and suddenly the thing that felt impossible becomes your warm‑up.

Myth #4: “I don’t have the right body type.”

Pole and aerial are for every body. Every size, every age, every background, every fitness level.

Your body is capable of more than you think. These sports are about discovering strength you didn’t know you had — not fitting a certain mold.

Myth #5: “I’ll hold the class back.”

You won’t. Beginner classes are built for people who are starting from scratch. Everyone learns at their own pace, and your instructor is trained to support all levels.

You’re not slowing anyone down — you’re joining a community that celebrates every step of your journey.

What You Do Need to Start

Just three things:

  • curiosity

  • willingness to try

  • an open mind

Everything else — strength, flexibility, confidence — comes with time.

You’re Ready. Truly.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start pole or aerial, this is it. You don’t need to prepare. You don’t need to train first. You don’t need to look a certain way.

You just need to take that first step.

Your body will learn. Your strength will grow. Your confidence will bloom. And you’ll discover a version of yourself you didn’t know existed.

I can resonate with this fully, I had not exercised more than a light walk for years when I started my pole journey. With the intro and beginner programs, I saw drastic improvements in my mobility, strength, and health within 3 months.

I also drew confidence to approach challenges in my career and personal life with my personal successes in pole class.

Absolutely a begginer friendly program, I never imagined I could easily use my upper body strength effectively in a short amount of time.

The community and friends you will create here are also equally as rewarding as diving into and exploring new aspects of yourself. Everyone is welcoming and excited to greet you into this new environment.
